What She Bought: Summer Edition

 Long story short: I went shopping. I got a scholarship for my work on the school's newspaper, so I treated myself. I did go a little crazy though, so I promised myself that this would be the last of my summer prep shopping. We'll see. I did keep to a budget though and everything I bought was between .75 and 15.00. Hallelu for thrift shopping. I don't care what people say about my frugality.

This outfit, all thrifted, got me a Teen Vogue Best Dressed Reader for May 4th (it'll be up on that day), so there! I don't want to hear boo about my .75 cent shirts.

What She Bought

This morning as I was throwing together a 5-minute outfit, I realized that there was nothing fresh in my closet. Not fresh as in just washed, but as in recently purchased with tags still attached and the scent of the store still lingering.
Not that I go on large movie-esque shopping sprees, but I remember when my mother would take me seasonal shopping and I'd come home with bags filled of goodies.
Now, I support myself and I've been doing my hardest to save money, and my closet is showing the outcome.

I decided to go through all the little one here, one there purchases I've made to make myself feel better.  Like I haven't abandoned the thrill of the right purchase. I still can shop, but I guess I'm just prioritizing. Rent+Bills > New Wedged Boots
P.S. What if I wore all of these items together. Imagine that? Wouldn't I look like a hobo. Hilarious.  
P.S.S. Everything here is under 10$. Run and tell that homeboy.

One Size Fits All

 Thank heavens, we finally had a beautiful weekend in Georgia! After what felt like nothing but chills, it was sunny and warm. I wish I could've done an outfit post, but.....

My boyfriend and I went to the the Gainesville square, which embodies quaint southern charm. Nothing but little boutiques, cafes and other little shops. This is where I encountered Dress Up Boutique. I've always been wary of boutiques, only because they are typically expensive. I went in only because there was a sale sign.

It turns out it was filled with great unique stuff at amazing prices. It is the best boutique I've ever been to. I ended up getting two pairs of sweater leggings since my lightweight ones don't work in the winter.

The only size they had was one size fits all, and I'm often wary of that since I'm pretty curvy on the bottom. But for $6 each, what the heck. With a little wiggling they fit well enough so, Jackpot! I especially love that these are fitted around the ankle, like leggings should be. I've bought some that a too loose and look awful. So as a tip, leggings need to be fitted!

I fully intend on going back, especially since my staple store is becoming disappointing. I am officially over Forever 21 -- in store anyway.

I went this weekend and I was willing to spend at least $20, and all I spent was $3.50. Maybe my budgeting skill are becoming better. Or it could be that the messy organization and poor item coordination makes it hard to shop. They had nice things, but I wasn't in the mood to dig around. Online will do it for me from now on.

Also, I bought my own domain name, finally! I'm excited. I feel much more professional, and it'll be easy for all of you to visit my blog. Hooray!

R.I.P. Plaid?

Is plaid dead?

When plaid reawakened from the 90's grunge grave to be worn by indie hipsters, it was pretty groundbreaking. Everyone everywhere was buying and wearing the trend. I was one of them. I still have a few items in my closet, but lately, I've been hesitant to wear them. 

I do like the ease of my plaid button ups, and I like that it breaks up the monotony of solids, but has it been done to the point of death? I would say, yes. It has been done, a lot. But, I do like my plaid. So if I do pull my lumberjack button up out every once in a while, don't kill me. 

Oh, P.S. I normally do a side part, but I'm feeling this mid-part thing I did. I stopped doing it 7th grade because I thought side bangs hid my chubby face better. Good decision?

Militant Warmth

Finally, I've got myself a new winter coat. After years of the same old peacoat, I've embraced a wool, double-breasted, military jacket. It's warm, it's cute and it was affordable. From a store in my local mall that I never ever go in, I found this gem for 27.99. I know! The store is usually stocked with clubbing dresses, but this coat...I must've gotten lucky. 

I love the button detailing on it. The fit is a little big, but with my layers underneath, it'll be fine. 

The same day, I also bought these baubles. I'm a ring addict. The more intricate, the better. I don't even have to describe why I loved these, just look at them. Not to mention, in total, they were only 16 dollars.

Material Girl

My friend got the urge, at 8:15 p.m., to drive to Macy's to find a dress for her birthday. Mind you, Macy's closes at 9 p.m., and the drive takes about 15 minutes. I though we weren't going t make it, but she had hope.

We made it with enough time for her to find a party dress and for me to raid the clearance rack. Yes, clearance, gasp (I'm a fashion lover, not a be-broke-and-live-in-the-gutter-with-my clothes -to-keep-me-comfort lover).

As I was scaling the racks, I noticed the most adorably pearl and stud embellished cardigan from Madonna's daughter's fashion line, Material Girl.

Originally priced at 39.99 now down to 9.99? Yes please. I also bought a silver bow bangle to feed my unhealthy addiction to bows (to paint a picture, I have a bow tattoo). On sale for 2.00. Ow! With only about 20 minutes to spare in Macy's, I think I did pretty good.

Finger Painting

 

I'm no nail expert, but I know a good deal when I see one. There are the drugstore nail polishes that run from about .99 cents to 4 dollars. Then there are the brands that the professionals use. The more expensive, more pigmented, longer lasting, tons of original colors, and overall better quality polishes. The O.P.I's, the Essie's and the China Glaze's. 

I usually stick to the lower end brands (L.A. Girl is fab), but every once in a while I splurge on one if I fall in love with the color. I went into Sally's Beauty the other day and I found some colors that were on sale for 1.99! I got Wild Mink , a creme finish, from the Core Collection and Towel Boy Toy, a shimmer finish, from this summers Poolside Collection. 

I'm a sucker for turquoise colors and Towel Boy Toy didn't disappoint. It did need a top coat  to get the shiny finish, though.  Wild Mink is a very feminine coral-ish pink. Both polishes went on smoothly. I couldn't have expected more from a salon quality brand. For 1.99,  it was completely worth it.  

I'm A Thief

I stole all of these,well,  except for the sunglasses (which I bought yesterday from F21).  I had to be sneaky, but these pieces are worth the risk. Lucky for me, my mom wears the same pieces of jewelry over and over again, so she won't even know these are missing from the back of her jewelry box.  

I am in love with these pieces, I just need to find the right opportunity to wear them. It pays to have a stylish mom and a penchant for petty thievery.
