Going Tribal

I went to Charming Charlie this week on the hunt for a mens-style watch. While rummaging through their immense collection of color coded accessories, I found the clearance rack. Oh, yes. I am a sucker for severely reduced prices. In the clearance section is where I found three necklaces of the tribal variety.

I haven't immersed myself in this bold, colorful trend because I lean towards timidity unless I make a mental note not too. I do like the patterns and colors, I just never thought I could pull it off. The necklaces I bought (above) are bright, chunky and out of my zone, so I had to conduct a scientific experiment to see how I'd work them.

Experiment #1
This is the snazziest of the two looks. I love this blazer and will forever wear it until it is no longer white...then I'll wear it as a beige blazer. I went for a warmer palette, with the exception of the gray jersey skirt to break it up a bit. I'd prefer brown sandals like these since it is the summer (I'm working on getting a pair), but the booties were good enough for this illustration. You get what I'm getting at.

Experiment #2
This is the more casual approach, especially with the early 90's denim shorts. These are cooler colors, with a pop of orange in the purse to compliment the necklace. Minus the heels, I'd wear this to classes. On the weekend though, heels are totally acceptable. I would probably layer on more bangles too.

All in all, I liked experimenting with tribal accessories. I might even invest in some ikat printed items later on.

New Blog Layout - Please Read!

Because I get bored and I am indecisive, I'm trying to revamp the look of my blog.

The thing is I'm not sure which I like better. The new option (pictured above) is more of the classic style/fashion blog format. The current blog format (what you're looking at) is just something I liked and whipped together. I still think it's cute though.

I know most people don't comment unless it's an outfit/makeup post BUT, I would love some feedback from my readers and people who just wander to my site.

I'll be having a lot of the same sidetabs and links. It's really just a visual change.

As a benefit for lending a helping hand and commenting, I'll put whoever comments that also has a blog on the new blogroll that I'm going to make.

Here's a link to the sample blog template: NEW What A Pretty Face Template!
Thank You in advance,
Audrey W.

EFno & The Leather Tuxedo

I guess I'll start off traditionally, with what I wore. This Friday I went to Atlanta's Entertainment & Fashion Night Out. I was invited as press to cover the event, and I was pretty darn jazzed about it. I've always felt that Atlanta needed to sink it's teeth into the fashion world in a bigger way.
Before I launch into specifics, I figured I'd just show you guys what I wore. I call it the leather tuxedo because, well, you can see that it's basically all leather...or leatheresque.

Outfit

Black Leather Miniskirt
Black Leather Bomber Jacket
Off White Button Up Shirt
Rhinestone & Pearl Bib Necklace

Black Leather Booties

Now for a little more on the event itself. The full article on the event is here!
Meet Stevie Boi. You may not know him by name, but you definitely know his work. If you've ever noticed the out-of-this world shades worn by the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Mina, you've seen the genius of Stevie Boi. His glasses and other accessories aren't for the tame and genteel; they are for the wild and fearless. At this event, Stevie Boi had a soft launch of his upcoming line, Coexist, that will also be showing at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week in February.

I was so excited that he let me wear his glasses. I don't think I could pull these off though.
Kandi from Real Housewives of Atlanta was also there to perform, so I expected to see some of the cast.  What I wasn't expecting was Dwight in a fur coat and a pimp hat. I, of course, ran over to talk to him, and got a rather lengthy interview. Mostly about the state of emergency that the Atlanta fashion scene is in.

Kandi's performance was great. I didn't expect her to sound perfect because of how she sounds on the show sometimes, but she really did well.
I had a great time, and since this is supposed to be a monthly event I'm hoping I can make it to the next one.

Closet Nostalgia

A while ago, I did a video on some looks that I really liked for Fall. The outfits I put together ended up being some of my favorites, not just for fall, favorite period.

Now that it's chillier, I miss some of the clothes I can't wear anymore and nostalgia is kicking in. I've also had to sell some of the clothes featured in the video because, well, times are hard on a college student with grown up expenses.

If you aren't a fan of watching videos or for whatever reason haven't seen it, here are most of them. These are captured from  the video, so they are pretty blurry, but you get the gist of some outfit combos you can put together if you're lacking cold weather inspiration.

A good way to winterize these? Adding tights, scarves, gloves, a sturdy coat and boots. But even adding those items won't stop my lust for warmer weather and the clothes that come with it.

Animal Collective

Going through my jewelry, I realized, "Hmmm, I have a lot of animals in there." I'm not sure when wearing animals became a thing in jewelry, but I'm happy it did.

Here's my simple collection. They are pretty simple pieces, considering I've seen some large, ornate animal jewels. These are easily incorporated into my everyday wear and they add a bit of quirk without being overpowering.

           Necklaces                                       Gold Rings                                        Silver Rings
Jeweled Movable Fish - F21             Indian Elephant - F21                        Wrapped Snake - Gifted
Rhinestone Owl - F21                   Wrapped Cheetah - H&M            Oversized Owl - The Body Shop

R.I.P. Plaid?

Is plaid dead?

When plaid reawakened from the 90's grunge grave to be worn by indie hipsters, it was pretty groundbreaking. Everyone everywhere was buying and wearing the trend. I was one of them. I still have a few items in my closet, but lately, I've been hesitant to wear them.

I do like the ease of my plaid button ups, and I like that it breaks up the monotony of solids, but has it been done to the point of death? I would say, yes. It has been done, a lot. But, I do like my plaid. So if I do pull my lumberjack button up out every once in a while, don't kill me.

Oh, P.S. I normally do a side part, but I'm feeling this mid-part thing I did. I stopped doing it 7th grade because I thought side bangs hid my chubby face better. Good decision?

Apologies

Shame on me.
I feel like I haven't posted in a while. It has been a week. In short, I just haven't been in a great mood. Mostly weather and school related. I love the people in my life, so no stress there.

I was even treated by my gentleman caller to go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this weekend. Seeing them in a role that went from lighthearted when it first came out, to serious and dark was a shock. It was kind of depressing to watch. There were hardly any joyful parts, and those that were happy were quickly ended by some evil Voldermort scheme.  I enjoyed nonetheless.

Which brings me to Emma Watson. Hello grown up and fierce!
Definitely getting the Twiggy vibe from her.
I really loved the soft nude color palette of this shoot. Good job Marie Claire!

Truth or Dare

Sometimes, I have to dare myself to wear certain things. Some things are good in theory, and then you try it on and it looks...eh...

Working on my fashion experimentation, I looked through Forever 21's current TwelvebyTwelve collection.

The Military Jacket- I know military is big, but the lace and the shoulder pads really make this jacket something special. I like it, but it's something I'd like in secret until I grew the balls to wear it.

Leopard Coat - I have always loved leopard print, but I've always felt it was good in small doses. A whole coat, that would be a push for me, but it just looks so luxe.

The Lace Tee- I also love lace. I own a few lace tops, so this won't be too far out for me style wise.

The Fur Vest - I like this one because it isn't as intense as the full on fur vests (a la Rachel Zoe). The fur is just a collared detail.

I'm not sure how long it'll take for me to muster up the courage, but somehow I will. And when I do...watch out world. Haha.

Material Girl

My friend got the urge, at 8:15 p.m., to drive to Macy's to find a dress for her birthday. Mind you, Macy's closes at 9 p.m., and the drive takes about 15 minutes. I though we weren't going t make it, but she had hope.

We made it with enough time for her to find a party dress and for me to raid the clearance rack. Yes, clearance, gasp (I'm a fashion lover, not a be-broke-and-live-in-the-gutter-with-my clothes -to-keep-me-comfort lover).

As I was scaling the racks, I noticed the most adorably pearl and stud embellished cardigan from Madonna's daughter's fashion line, Material Girl.

Originally priced at 39.99 now down to 9.99? Yes please. I also bought a silver bow bangle to feed my unhealthy addiction to bows (to paint a picture, I have a bow tattoo). On sale for 2.00. Ow! With only about 20 minutes to spare in Macy's, I think I did pretty good.

p.s. new Visual Diary post for today ♥

It's Been A While

It's crazy that I can wear this at the beginning of October.

I haven't posted in a while. Lo siento mi amor. It's been crazy.
My workout schedule, school, work, being a Fashion Club ambassador at my school, newspaper stories, boyfriend, I can go on. But, no excuses!

News Update: I am also now a beauty writer for Manik Magazine, an online publication. I'm very excited about branching out.

Now, more recent happenings. PRIDE! I went to Atlanta Pride for the second year in a row. I am a diagnosed Fag Hag. Really and Truly. Saw the the Starlight Cabaret Drag Show and man, those trannies know how to cut a rug. My favorite performance was a faux Whitney Houston doing "It's Not Right, but It's Okay" Thunderpuss mix. The man was snorting pretend coke on stage!

I don't believe I'd been hit on that much in a while. Men and women alike. Even some gay men kicked in with the compliments. It was pretty funny. Anywho, I promise to not slip like this again. Pinky Promise.

Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Pretty Friends

Flower Power Twins.
Meet Marilynn. Isn't she as cute as a button? And her outfit ain't bad either. I had to give her some credit for this one. It's very well styled, from the floral dress with the zipper detail, to the camel leather boots.

I'd have to say, I got upstaged that day. But, I love her, so it's all good.
